How Long Does It Take To Fit A Dental Crown?

Fitting a crown requires at least two visits to our office. Initially, we will remove the decay, filling, or existing crown, continue to refine and shape the tooth, and fit the tooth with a temporary crown.

On the subsequent visit, we will remove the temporary crown and fit and adjust the final crown. Finally, we will cement the crown, providing you with a new beautiful-looking tooth.

What Are The Capabilities Of Crowns?

Crown and bridgework is an extremely reliable solution for major dental problems. The material used for crown fabrication varies and can range from traditional porcelains to lithium disilicate, ceramics, pressed glass, zirconia, and even gold! Higher-strength materials are recommended to treat the most serious dental and occlusal problems. When teeth are damaged or broken through a lifetime of use or because of old fillings fracturing, dental crowns and bridges can be used as a long-term solution.

Many people unknowingly have cracks and fractures in their posterior teeth from old filling materials. These teeth take tremendous force, and over a lifetime, they can cause extreme wear leaving these teeth in an unprotected and precarious position. Additionally, any posterior tooth with a root canal must be restored with a protective crown. Placing crowns on these teeth strengthens them and allows them to return to full dental function. In front teeth, older restorations can both weaken and stain the teeth, creating an esthetic concern. Porcelain crowns and bridges are suitable in cases where porcelain veneers are not.
